PR Firm pitches and the follow through
Blog Watching, Media Musings, New Media, PR September 29th, 2008I was offered an interview with the MediaWeek editors as they launched their MediaWeek 50. Questions I sent through were mainly on environmental impact and awareness, metrics and measurement and platforms and content. I will post answers when I receive them through.
I have to say, I have noticed a trend of PR companies sending me pitches lately, some interesting and some who I am sure have never read my blog and have just mined a database and fired out a thousand emails into the abyss. I usually take up the opportunity where access to online media and communication experts is offered and really enjoy thinking of questions to ask and insights of my own that I want to get their view on.
My advice to these firms is if you are doing this and sending out comms to bloggers and traditional media then follow through with your offer or request quickly. Or if you are doing the Blogger thing as a token gesture don’t bother.
The world, especially the online world, moves far too quickly and by the time you eventually get something through a week later it may be no longer relevant. And if you never follow through at all you are doing your company’s brand a real disservice and are unlikely to be taken seriously (or gain any coverage for clients) in the new media space. Word travels fast and many bloggers have no issues with naming and shaming.
