General March 24th, 2008Does this resonate with anyone else? I have just have a relatively technology free and very rejuvenating weekend. Maybe thats why it struck a chord.
“Now these empty moments are increasingly being saturated with productivity, communication and the digital distractions presented by an ever-expanding array of slick mobile devices.” Read My Ipod ate my Brain Here

Just read ‘My Ipod Ate My Brain’, it was all good, reminded me of uni media studies, paha. I don’t see a lack of boredom through digital distractions as stemming creativity but rather as redirecting the train of creative thought down other avenues. Repetition of any one form of digital media (such as Tetris) however might lead to a numbing of creative output over time as the same senses are being targeted in exactly the same manner time and again. Everyday life offers more creative output simply because there is so much more random influence that can come around in the real world as opposed to the digital world where everything is made up of a pre determined sequence of 1’s and 0’s. This description is less than clear but I think that boredom itself isn’t even mildly creative, but the creative thoughts that come about as a result of boredom make it a necessary factor of the ‘analog’ creative thought process. The ‘digital’ process works similarly with digital media in place of boredom but the digital creative outcome and the analog creative outcome will differ simply due to the different initial influence. So yeah, hope you get something out of that babble, at the end of the day i’d rather be at the beach than immersed in technology anyday but it’s not as easy as it sounds huh. Rad website by the way Lu, hope alls goin swimmingly! Ciao
