The pervasive power of man made news
Written by Judy MacGregor- Equal opportunities Comissioner, NZ Read here: Pervasive power of man made news
Interesting out take: Governance structures of NZ media companies- here where owners and shareholders provide strategic direction to media ocmpanies. This impacts directly and indirectly on editorial control of public and privately owned media companies. Murdock (1977) governance linked to allocative control as opposed to operational control. AC operates on the higher general levelconcerned with structure and development of media enterprise as a whole.
- Scale and scope of media activities and overall allocation of resources, such as hiring and firing of editors, operates at this level. Directors of boards wield power and influence - compelling social justice and business cases for womens representation on the boards of directors.
Now to some man made news : Google apps- should you switch?
Quote from today from a very grand friend of mine ” I must admit that I do love Google. It is great watching the world
changing.”

Old media battles to make sense out of new media
NZ Herald
“Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of the New York Times, said at the World Economic Forum in Davos he wasn’t sure if the New York Times would be printed in five years”
I have 100% faith that this will NOT happen. There will never be anything like a freshly printed, not yet read, substance laden publication in your hand with a coffee in the other (long, long black) and a superfluous hour or three. The New Yorker, Time, The Listener, Metro, North and South, NW, We are on the decline now.. What about sand in the keyboard? No sound of pages, lovely smell of ink- Noooo!
Here we go, now I feel better - Fairfax Media Magazines demonstrate strong growth across major titles in latest readership results. Fairfax Magazines titles have demonstrated significant market strength with considerable increases in readership for key publications during the past twelve months, according to the latest Nielsen Readership Survey results.

Presidential politics and Iraq managed to attract their fair share of coverage last week. But an allegedly homicidal astronaut and a troubled pinup girl really commandeered the media’s attention. The coverage of the death of Anna Nicole Smith was cast as sociology but it had the intensity of voyeurism.

What is News & Views?
I started a school newspaper when I was 7 called News & Views.. It seems that it still stands 16 years later that news doesnt appear to be necessarily what the general population take time to read (!), talk about, email, and form views on.
Even back then I found through market (playground) research surveys that people were more interested in reading about the inside scoop on the elusive Mrs Kennedy than who won the highly contested sand saucer competition at Pets Day.

I do believe the social monitoring would see prices paid directly correlated to how many people where in the store… If noone is driving behind you did you throw the litter out the window? Although I guess the barista would always be present and casting glances of disdain at gorsepocketed individuals..
